Getting Started with GS1#
1. Join GS1#
- Contact your national GS1 office
- Apply for membership
- Receive company prefix
- Access training resources
2. Company Prefix#
- Unique identifier for your company
- Length varies by capacity needs
- Forms basis of all GTINs
- Cannot be transferred/sold
3. Assign Numbers#
- Create GTINs for products
- Calculate check digits
- Register in GS1 database
- Maintain records

Size Specifications#
- Minimum: 80% of nominal
- Maximum: 200% of nominal
- X-dimension: 0.0104" minimum
- Quiet zones: Required on all sides
Quality Standards#
- Grade A: Best quality
- Grade B: Good quality
- Grade C: Acceptable
- Grade D: Poor (may not scan)
- Grade F: Fail
